Hoka One One Clifton 2 -Product description by Kevin
This second generation of the Clifton has a few good updates but nothing so major as to change the overall fit of the shoe. Hoka added some padding to the tongue of this model to take some pressure off the lacing as well as adding a bit more of an outsole to the shoe in key areas to increase durability.
I would say that the shoe feels a bit firmer in the ride of the original model which I enjoy . The original model did feel softer which felt nice but the new model feels better on the longer runs.
The Clifton 2 is a very light shoe and although a lighter runner could train in this shoe full time , I find for a bigger runner (over 185 lbs) it is better as a speed training, tempo or racing shoe. I train in the Bondi as my long run shoe and when I switch to my Clifton's it feels like a racing shoe. All in all a great update.
